ILR - Cheque bounced - Bank error

Post by newbiepk » Tue Aug 28, 2012 10:42 am

Hello everyone,

I need your help with an unusual situation I just encountered. My spouse visa already expired and I made an application for ILR 2 days prior to expiry. However, a week later I learned that the cheque of £991 bounced because of my husband had no signature mandate on system. But when we went to the bank, they found out that there was signature and it was an oversight on their part.

I have received acknowledgement letter, I am not sure the best approach for now. Shall I wait for my documents to be returned? Will my visa be rendered invalid? Does it make me an overstayer?

Thanks for your help!

contact UKBA and try to pay by Credit/debit card.. You should have chosen this method over cheque payment.

A cheque payment isn't necessarily a poor choice. UKBA processing staff are unfortunately renowned for tapping in the incorrect credit/debit card details!

One tip: Goto Citizen advise Bureau. If check bounched due to Bank mistake, you can claim all the losses due to the stress. One of my friend acquantances was able to claim upto 10-15K based on this. :D
