Indian Visa while still holding Indian Passport

Once I get my British passport back (after naturalisation) can I apply for Indian Visa while still holding the Indian passport? I wished to surrender the Indian passport after getting a visa. Is that possible or even for visa I have to show surrender certificate.
Also what is the time line for getting surrender certificate if you apply at VFS in person?

If youre already an Indian citizen, you do not need a visa. On acquiring British passport, you automatically lose Indian citizenship, hence have to surrender Indian passport. See the VFS site for further details.
