Canada to UK - places available?

Hi guys, I have a quick question if anyone can help.

Has anyone applied recently from Canada to the UK or know how many places are left? It says they have 5000 in total which doesn't seem like very many to me.

When I e-mailed them to find out how many where taken or when the best time to apply was they said they couldn't tell me.

My boyfriend doesn't want to pay the £194 application fee to be told all the places are allocated for this year are gone anyway.

Can anyone help? We're really not sure how this all works!

I've read somewhere that Canada has never used up all of it's places. IF you are concerned, it's best to apply in January (the spaces are allocated per calendar year). I applied around February and arrived in the UK in May.
