British citizenship from outside the UK for a UK born kid

Post by SitiP » Tue Sep 11, 2012 4:19 pm

I am in the UK for a while and this month took citizenship. My daughter has been on a dependent visa on my ILR. She is born here in the UK when I was on HSMP. I could have got a British passport for her when I got an ILR. However, I did not do that deliberately because I am planning to go back to India soon and with a British Passport her college tuitions fees will go up (my daughter has an Indian passport now). My question is this – Now that I have a British Passport (just one parent, the other still has kept his Indian passport), can my daughter apply for British citizenship IN INDIA before she turns 18 (for the fact that she was born in the UK and one of her parent is a British Citizen now)? In that case where do I get the required references from? Thank you for all your help.

You becoming BC doesn't change her eligibility which is based on you becoming settled (ILR).
