COA - permission to work

Post by catnap2012 » Wed Sep 12, 2012 8:24 am

Can someone advise me on the following?
  • I applied for EEA2 unmarried partner (fiance) on 18/04
I received COA in June, the letter stated it could not confirm right to work as I've applied as an unmarried partner.
My fiance and I got married in July.
I called and wrote to the home office regarding my change of status and sent them my marriage certificate by special delivery, I requested an updated COA since I am now married.
The still haven't sent the updated COA and I've requested it twice by letter.
I understand under the free movement act I can work. I've now been offered a job. And I need to take this job, there are not many jobs in my area around at the moment. My question is can I accept the job without the updated COA?
How else can I confirm my legal right to work? It seems unfair life has to be put on hold because the homeoffice is taking too long to process applications.

Of course you can accept the job. But does your employer understand the situation?

I think you stand a better chance asking for a priority treatment and getting the RC than asking for an updated CoA.

Call the HO, explain you need RC for employment and ask for priority treatment as your application has been for more than 3 months. Follow with a letter (registered mail).
