Tier 1 Dependant application question

Hi - hope someone can help with my question - I applied for my newborn son for T1G dependant 2 weeks ago, it looks like from the timelines posted on the other thread the process will take approx 2 or more months. we applied without sending his passport as we did not have his passport at that time. we just received his passport.

1) should we send the passport now?
2) we need to travel in October, Nov and Dec - can we return to the UK without my son having the T1G dependant BRP? he has a USA passport so technically could he enter the country as a tourist?

Dont travel without T1General approved. it can cause issues.
