How do I appeal a rejected Schengen tourist visa?

Hi there,

So applied for a schengen tourist visa to visit Portugal for a couple of days. I did this through a company called spammer here in London, UK that has a good reputation. They informed me today that the visa got rejected. It came as a shock because I've never been rejected for a UK, US, or Benelux visa before.

I will be receiving a letter tomorrow for why I got rejected. I am very confused and irritated because I submitted everything required for the application and the visa company even said my employment letter showing 2 yrs with the same company as a project manager is great.

I did not include any personal letter saying I am going to just visit the country as a tourist and will be coming back to join work. Actually, I didn't know this is a necessity. Has this been a cause for rejection before????

The embassy must check the likelihood that you will leave the Schengen area again. But this is typically inferred from the supporting documents showing your circumstances: you appear to have a well-paying and stable job. I do not think a letter from you would be useful maybe one from your employer stating that you would be expected back for work. What other documents did you include? I am not sure if the letter of refusal will give you much information.

Hi,

Thanks for responding. My employer provided an official company letter-headed letter stating that I will be going on such and such dates and returning to work on the specific date. I thought that along with my hotel + flight bookings would do it....

I guess I will need more advice after I see that letter tomorrow... HOnestly I'm so annoyed and anxious

Sufficient travel insurance?

I submitted everything including:

a) passport with more than 6 months validity
b) employer's letter
c) Hotel + flight booking confirmation
d) bank account statements showing more than sufficient proof of funds for the 4 days of my stay
e) travel insurance I bought from the post office
f) 2 photos
g)completed visa application form
h) last 3 months' payslips

don't know what happened. I plan to appeal against this decision. Do I need a lawyer to appeal???

I fail to spot any problem with your list.

I am sceptical if an appeal is of much use. Appeals are handled based on national law and who knows what the Portuguese made of this.

Until you receive this, you won't know the reason for the rejection.
