Moving into Contracting

Post by ric1982 » Wed Sep 19, 2012 11:45 am

Hi,

I am an IT Dev. with over 6 years of Dev. experience in UK on .NET platform.I have one week notice period on my current role. I am always been a perm. employee but now looking to move into contracting for money and flexibility.

My question is what is the best way to move to contracting? Should I hand the notice in first and then start looking for contracting (safe) or get a contract first and then hand the notice in (more risky).

I have tried the first approach but it seems like for one reason or another agencies/clients are avoiding my application. (One reason I can see is lack of contracting experience.. but I have to start somewhere).

Does anyone has any experience on this? Any IT Contractors on this forum? Any input is much appreciated.
