Retaining Citizenship

Post by monkebab » Sun Sep 30, 2012 5:07 pm

Hi,

I am about to apply for naturalisation for myself and my family however have a question I was hoping someone could answer.

Due to unforeseen family circumstances we may need to return to our country of birth for a couple years but we intend to return to live in the UK straight after.

So my question is; If we become naturalised and receive our British passports and then leave the country for a year or two, will we be allowed back into the UK or will we have our status as UK citizens revoked because we haven't continued to reside in the UK for a certain amount of time?

Many thanks in advance
M

No problem.

Just don't mention these intentions in the application(s).

There are no residence requirements for British citizens. In fact, there are many BC who never lived in the UK (born abroad to a British parent).
