Can I apply for an extension outside UK?

Post by gwendollen » Mon Oct 15, 2012 5:34 pm

Hi all,

I've spent so much time trying to find the answer to this question with no luck. I need to apply for a UK visa tier 2 extension but I have a trip planned to the US over the holidays when my visa is up. I've looked at processing times and I can actually get it processed in the US while I'm there while I cannot get it completed before I leave.

my question is, no where online does it say you HAVE to apply in the country you live - I live in the UK. Does anyone know for sure one way or the other?
Thanks

Extension = leave to remain = can only be applied for from within the UK.
An application from outside the UK is that of entry clearance = leave to enter.

To apply for entry clearance you'll need a restricted CoS from your employer.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

- so then the COS I have been issued from my employer is a different kind of COS then would have been issued if I was out of country? I was worried there was something that would come up later in the process and then equate to a denial and lose of fees.

if you apply for entry clearance from abroad, and depending on your present immigration status, you may also be caught by the 12 months cooling-off period - perhaps you should contemplate re-planning your holidays.

I have the same problem.
i gave biometrics on 17th September for tier-2 and still haven't got it. i have to go on a trip for personal reasons soon and still haven't got my visa/passport.
is it possible to withdraw the application and apply from the country i am visiting (india)?
the CoS doesn't say that it's restricted.
