Unemployed Tier 1 General - new Dependant?

Post by youknowho » Fri Oct 19, 2012 3:49 am

Dear all,

I am a Tier 1 General migrant and recently made redundant. In a couple of months my wife is supposed to apply as my Dependant. Could you please advise if the fact that I am unemployed at the time of her application may anyhow harm her case?

I saw many forum members stating that they provide a letter from their employer as a supporting document for their dependants. Do you think in my situation it is better to provide a letter from the last employer or provide no letter at all?

Many thanks in advance!

In my opinion you do not need any proof of your employment or letter for employer for a dependant visa. All you need is to be able to show enough bank balance as mentioned in the guidance.

theoretically you don't need to provide your employment details for your wife's dependent visa but its best to apply for your wife's visa when you have a job in hand as it'll help the case significantly, that will be my choice if i were you.

Many thanks for your kind replies.

So far we formed the same impression as tcpip_helper advises - it is not an explicit rule but no job at hand may harm the case and you obviously don't want to risk it even slightly.
Oh boy..
