Emergency travel to South Africa

Post by talon » Sun Oct 21, 2012 8:32 am

Hello,

My dad has just died and so i need to travel back to South Africa asap. I'm currently in the process of renewing my tier 2 work permit so i don't actually have a passport on me as it is with the UKBA for my renewal.

I can get to South Africa with a temporary permit from the embassy, but it'll be getting back to the UK that is the issue.

The passport i have is valid till 2018 but the visa i had has already expired and is in the process of being renewed (and being a sunday, no where is open who i can call for advice!)

If anyone can offer me some advice, i would be very grateful.

Thanks

Sorry about your bereavement.
The information UKBA put out is here:
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... -documents
but this doesn't help in your case.
Not sure if feasible considering your personal circumstances but one possibility might be to travel on the South African emergency travel document now and then wait in SA for your extension to come through. When it does and provided somebody can take delivery of the documents they could forward them to you.

What I suggested would only work if you had already done the biometrics.

Otherwise you could apply for entry clearance from SA but for that you would need a new (restricted) CoS.

Hi Talon,

Please accept my condolences on your loss.

Hi Manci,

I have to travel extremely urgently for business in a few days. I have received my passport and approval letter last Thursday. I still have about 4 days before travel. Do you think your suggestion to talon applies to me. Am I able to ask somebody to post my BRP to India by courier? Is it allowed to do this?

Thanks a lot.

look at timelines - it seems to take about 2-5 days for the BRP to arrive after the approval letter.
