How long does the return of documents take?

Hi

Can anyone advise how long it normally takes to receive your passports etc after you cancel the visa process?

I assume you can request to receive all your docs at once? Birth certificates etc

I know thats what it says but the website also says I was going to get my application back within 6 weeks and that hasnt happened so is the 20 days reliable?

I recently request a return of documents on 1/10/2012 and i receive it on 4/10/2012 and i made a fresh applcation on the 5/10/2012

If I request the return of my documents without ticking the cancel process box will the process be automatically cancelled if I leave the country?
