I am an Indian citizen living in New York and working for a large accounting firm. I have to visit Poland for a week to attend a conference. The firm I work for will cover all my expenses and have written a letter of support to that effect. I will not be able to travel to India before then and therefore will be applying for the Schengen visa at the consulate in NY.
I have one question regarding the "Proof of US Immigration status" requirement. I orignially entered the US two years ago on a J-1 visa and then changed status to H-1B. I have not left the US since I entered and therefore, I only have H-1B status - I do not have the H-1B visa stamped in my passport. I do however have a valid current I-94 and valid I-797 authorizing my stay in the US and permitting employment. Will this be a problem when I apply for the Schengen visa. I am legally employed in the US.
I have currently booked my travel showing that I will arrive in Poland from New York and then depart to India at the end of my trip.
