Solicitor Fees for Appeals - dont want to be ripped off....

Post by Gracie2404 » Sat Oct 27, 2012 3:49 pm

My Dad is trying to get his Kenyan wife to the UK and it has been declined due to the new Financial regulations.
It seems we do have a case to appeal with but we spoke to a solicitor yesterday who quoted £4500.00 plus about £500.00 for Barrister costs.
It sounds an excessive amount of money but i cant see anywhere on the net that gives you an idea of the fees. Does this sound like the average price you would be paying a solicitor for an appeal or should we contact another solicitor?
Appreciate any advice asap.
Thanks

Call a few other solicitors and you'll get an idea if the costs quoted reflect the average or are excessive.

Sounds excessive to me. As suggested above shop around. What area of the country does he live in?

As an example, one of the most reputable solicitors firms in London for immigration charges £130 per hour for their solicitors and £160 for a partner, an appeal under the rules should not take in excess of 30 hours to prepare (which is what £4500 at that rate would amount to)
