Please can anyone advice on this?sarath1212 wrote:Hi,
I am applying for the naturalization (5yrs WP +1yr ILR) and i want to change my son's (7yr old) name before that.
All his indian PP and visa has the original names and i want to cut the lenghty name into to shorter (First &Last names).
If i change his via deed poll before Naturalization application and submit the deepoll original cretificate will it be sufficient?
Please can advice if i need to change his name via the solicitor (Notarized) or deedpoll via online is enough?
do i need to change his name back in india via Gazette and deed poll here?
Any advice much appreciated......
Thanks

deedpoll, though online is more time consuming (a week or so) and expensive. I think statutory declaration with a solicitor signing it is far much easier (few minutes once you get an appointment) and should not cost you more than 5 to 7 pounds.sarath1212 wrote:Hi,

Hi Newstarter,Thanks for your reply. Do you advice to do this after the naturalization to make the process easier by just doing it for Passport?NewStarter wrote:deedpoll, though online is more time consuming (a week or so) and expensive. Did the same for my spouse recently.. But did it after naturilsation (ie with the old name) and before applying for British Passport. All went through smooth without any issues!!
You don't have to change his name back in India.
To be honest, it should no matter and up to you when to do it. In our case we didn't think about name change until we had the naturalisation certificate in hand.. So did it later. In fact we applied for the British Passport with the new name without deedpoll or statutory declaration (Thought marriage certificate would be enough). The caseworker wrote back and asked for one of those and said marriage certificate would have been enough only if the marriage certificate had a later date than the naturalisation certificate. Got the statutory declaration with in a day, posted it same day and got invitation for interview in 2 days!!sarath1212 wrote:Hi Newstarter,Thanks for your reply.
