Switching Tier 4 to Tier 2 General Visas

Post by jkcool » Sat Nov 03, 2012 5:29 am

Hi All,

I am an MSc student and I have been offered a position by an A-rated sponsor. I intend to switch from Tier 4 to Tier 2 general.

I have given all the documents and I believe the application was submitted by last week of October, 2012. What are the timelines for getting the certificate of sponsorship (CoS) ?

I have a premium appointment booked on Dec 5th, 2012. Will I get it before the date ?

I also have one more question. In the application form (TIER 2 - MAIN APPLICANT) , the following question is there :

Code: Select all

H1. Have you ever had any Home Office or UK Border Agency reference number assigned to you?
How to answer it ? Is it the red number on top of the Tier 4 (student) visa or it's the VAF no. ?

Thank you
JK

Neither. You may not have one if you have never received an item of correspondence from the UKBA. If you have not then you may leave it blank.

Even so, it does not matter if you can't provide this; they have a database that can pull out your file in 0.03 seconds.

If by application you mean an application by the company to increase their CoS allocation for the current year then it is touch and go. Look at the many timelines posted on the forum.
If your T4 visa expires in the near future the company may request urgent treatment of their application.

By application, I meant the paper work regarding my details to my employer.

My sponsor is a very big academic institution and I guess they have their CoS allocation. If it is already allocated, then it should be easy, isn't it ?

Also, in the Tier 2 paper form on page 30, there is a a question
L5. What is your current or last grant of leave?

I have to select one from the many options ...
I am confused with the following :
-a student - go to question L6
-a Tier 4 migrant - go to question L6

My visa says Tier 4 (General) Student

Which one is correct ?

If your sponsor has a CoS allocation available then the matter is entirely in their hands and they can, if they so wish, assign a CoS to you immediately.
Tick the T4 migrant box, that is your current immigration status.
