HB+CTB application

Hi every please can someone help me i am a British National and my partner is from Nigeria and has no status(overstayer) in the uk we have just had a child together and was registerd by us both.
I now want to change my HB+CTB as they are commeing to live with me can anybody talk me through the process will i encounter any problems? what i am really trying to say is what do i do? do i just tell them she and my daughter is there and she has no income? due to been unable to work?
And also what would be the best way forward to try and change her status ?
Would there be a specfic visa that would be the best to apply for due to the circumstances?
