UK Ancestry Visa Extension

Has anyone recently applied for a UK Ancestry Visa Extension by post? If so, how long has it taken to receive a response?

I sent mine off 3 months ago and need to leave the country soon for personal reasons, however I don't want to withdraw my application unless absolutely essential.
