Post by Poshy2012 » Thu Nov 08, 2012 10:27 am

Dear members,

I have questions to ask regarding my extension come Feb2013
am currently on maternity leave. My prove of earnings are my salary employment and self employed activities.

1.Since i started my self employed jan2012 and My maternity start date was April 30th 2012 .Can I continue with my self employed activities while on maternity leave from my salary employment?
2.Do I prove self employed activities from Jan2012 To April2012 when my maternity leaves begins or use Jan2012 to Dec2012 which is 12month period while on maternity leave.
Please senior members and anyone with similar experience do reply your candid advice is highly welcome .

You can only claim for one defined period and this can before and after the period of leave. However, if you want to include income garnered while you are on maternity leave, it be like any normal application and you won't be able to use cite having a maternity period.

So, from your example. If you started maternity leave 30 April and are still away from work, you can claim for 12 months before that, but you can't then include any SE income that comes after April (as you are defining that as your maternity leave). You can't have your cake and eat it!

Just to clarify, you can continue working while on maternity leave (and good for you) but you can't use the income to claim points for PBS applications unless you discard the notion of having a maternity leave period.

You will be defining a 12 month period. Any income that falls within that period can be counted. It does not matter for how long you actually worked during those 12 months; it could be one contract lasting a week or the entire year. If your 12 month period includes only 4 months of SE income, that's fine.
