When I get my letter for the biometrics to be taken at the post office, would my uk drivers license do as a form of id?

You do not need ID for getting your biometrics taken at Post office...all you need to take with you is the biometrics letter and bar code page received with it from UKBA. PO will charge you handling fee of £19.20.
