SOC code for ILR employer letter

Post by UKclarne » Sun Nov 11, 2012 9:38 pm

Hi

I have been on a work permit for 5 years, initial approval was in July 2007. I'm planning to apply for ILR in Dec 2012. My job title was 'Assistant Accountant' in the work permit then in July 2007 and this has not changed as far as UKBA is concerned. i.e. Employer has not notified of any changes to UKBA of technical change of employment as not required.

I need an employer letter for ILR, stating I'm required for the job in question and state the SOC code most relevant to my job.

My question is, the SOC code most relevant to my job description is 2422 Management Accountants. My salary is is 17 GBP per hour which is above the appropriate rate of GBP 15.8 per hour.

However, I'm in doubt as to if in the employer letter it is stated that

"I have been employed for last 5 years and the company continues to require me in full time position as Assistant Accountant.

The nearest applicable SOC code is Management accountant at salary 17 GBP which is above appropriate rate of 15.82 GBP."

Would this cause an issue? Am I required to state SOC code 4122 Accounts and Wages clerk which is associated to the Job Title of Accounts Assistant? This SOC code job is below NQF level 3 as per Section K - Financial and Insurance activities.

If I state the SOC code most relevant to my Job is 4122, would that disqualify me from applying for ILR?

Please advise.

Clare

Are you a qualified (cost / management / works) accountant?

I'm a qualified ACCA accountant. I qualified fully in August 2006 from UK and joined the company who applied for my work permit in July 2007.

Can you please advise on the correct Job Title and relevant SOC code I'm required to mention on the employer letter for ILR?

If you are still doing the same job responsibilities that you had when you were sponsored as an assistant accountant and if those responsibilities are that give under SOC 2422, I believe you can use 2422 in the employer letter.

SOC codes are more relevant to job responsibilities rather than the job titles.

Hi

Job duties on original work permit July 2007 were:

1) Maintaining the Group and associated Companies books of accounts, updating ledgers, cash book, petty cash and credit card records, and bank reconciliations (2)Raising sales invoices and updating company intranet and database with Sage information (3) Salary/wage supervision, executing payroll, P11d’s and all year end payroll procedures (4) Processing and reconciling VAT, PAYE and CIS returns under new CIS scheme (5) Production of monthly and yearly management accounts (6) Maintaining holiday and sickness records and liaise with credit control team(7)Assisting analysis and reporting of financial performance and cash flow management.

Required Part/Fully qualified ACCA/CIMA professional or a degree holder in Accounts & Finance.

Job duties have not changed since and UKBA have not been informed of any Technical change of employment.

Hence, SOC code 4122 Accounts and wages clerks, book keepers and financial clerks associated to Job title Accounts Assistant seems to be most appropriate and in line with my original Job title 'Assistant Accountant'.

As there is no appropriate salary rate for SOC code 4122, I think salary of £25,000 per annum stated on original work permit will need to be stated as appropriate rate.

My current salary of £33,000 per annum is above this appropriate salary rate.

Can you please suggest if this is correct?

Thanks
