New financial requirement question. Help plz ?

Hi. This questions is for my friend who needs some help.

He is pakistani national living and working in saudi arabia with work (residential) visa. He is getting married to a british national who is a full time student and doesnt work.

My friend is working in saudi arabia for over 2 years and earning well over £18600 limit. Can you tell if he can meet the financial requirement only from his salary because his british wife is a full time student ?

I'm afraid they look at the sponsor's income rather than the applicants income.
