English Language requirement for FLR m

Post by z18runway » Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:05 pm

Hi,
My wife will be applying for FLR M with me inside the UK (while I am applying for ILR). My wife has done her bachelor degree in India. So my wife applied to UK NARIC for 'English Language assessment' based on the bachelor degree.

Today she received a letter from UK NARIC which reads:

"LEVEL OF ENGLISH: The level of English language for the above degree course does not meet the requirements of CEFR level C1.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Although it is confirmed that English is the medium of instruction in the teaching and examination system of the department poviding this award, it unfortunately has not been able to confim that the necessary English language requirements for CEFR Level C1 are met upon.

Nonetheless, as English was the medium of instruction for the above course of study, it is therefore possible for us to confirm that the individual will have at least met the required proficieny expressed for CEFR Level A1 "

1)Does this letter confirm the english language requirement for FLR m (Clearly I am confused with the decision of uk naric letter) ?

2)Do we need to apply for the UK NARIC certificate for english language assessment or this letter would be sufficient for the purpose of appying FLR m?
or
3)Is it better to take up ESOL course?

Senior members and moderators please help me.

You have done the same mistake I did when applying for my wife's visa. We requested an english assessment service from NARIC only to find out that they don't confirm English levels less than C1. (Your wife needs the most basic level A1).

I found out on this forum that we should have got a statement of comparability from NARIC to confirm that my wife's degree is comparable to a UK degree (i.e not the english level service). You probably also need something to prove that it was taught in English.

P.S: You only need NARIC statement of comparability if your wife's degree doesn't score any points on the PBS calculator.

Good Luck. As for me, I am waiting the refusal now to reapply :(

But they have confirmed that atleast the individual has met the CEFR LEVEL A1 which i think it is ok for applying for FLR(m) fgrom inside the UK

Interesting!

Apologies I overlooked the CEFR LEVEL A1 sentence. I think that is sufficient. Strangely, they didn't include this sentence in our letter and when I contacted them telling them that we only need confirmation for level A1 they said they can only comment on level C1 and above. :!: :!: :!:

This was my covering letter enclosed with certificate and transcript while i was requesting my wife's language assessment to UKNARIC

''I Ms.*********** will be applying for extension of stay as a dependent of a settled person in Uk. Hence according to ukba i have to undergo a english language test to meet the english language requirement. As iam not from one of the english speaking countries (India) but i have done my bachlors degree which is taught in english. So I want my degree to be assessed and recognised by UK NARIC as being taught in English and is equivalent to a United Kingdom Bachelor degree as set out in the UKBA Guidelines.''

Thank you for sharing your cover letter format. I wrote to them something along those lines as well and later discussed it with them on the phone but they simply said they could not comment on level A1. Will probably have to contact them again although it has been 5 months now since i got their useless letter.
