Hey guys,

Just a quick question on behalf of someone. Do the sponsor's documents need to be stamped/ attested by a solicitor?
Or can an mp/ councillor do it as well?

You must provide original documents and these don't need any treatment. Anything that is not an original needs to be certified as being a true copy of the original but there are only very limited circumstances in which copies would be accepted.

No no , for example as the sponsor. You need to get documents such as declaration / accomodation documents attested/ even passport photocopies.

Should they always be attested by a solictor?
If they are signed/ stamped by a councillor or an MP will that cast doubt?

Do they only want attested documents from solicitors?

You can provide a certified copy of your passport if you don't wish to send the original.

Okay. I get that. Maybe my explanation is poor. For example my friend wrote up a sponsor declaration form. He wanted to get it signed and to be on the safe side showed his solicitor who happily attested documents just to show that he has checked and approved the documents. (even the photocopied ones)

Now all I am asking is if someone was to get anything attested/signed the best person to do so would be a solicitor yes?

Is there any value in getting a councillor or an MP to sign anything?
