Hey all, I have a question about my soon-to-be-started Belgium work permit application. I am from a Non-EU country.
I applied for a German national visa under the Blue card law so I could go look for work in Germany. This is not a "Schengen visa" and is valid for 180 days as opposed to the 90 days max of a regular Schengen visa. NOTE: I don't have this visa yet. It is still processing and should be ready by mid-December. The German embassy has held my passport and original degree certificate hostage for 90 days.
Now, my company has decided to send me to Belgium for a position there. However, my contact in immigration raised an issue saying that it is possible that Belgium would want me to cancel the German visa before they approve/stamp the Belgian visa since both are members of the EU and/or the Schengen area.
Could anyone help me out here? Would I need to get the German visa canceled? I was hoping to have it as backup in case I didn't like Belgium or working for my company, so I could go look for work in Germany like I originally planned.
