tier 2 visa extension if claimed child benefit

i am on tier 2 visa and it was due for exetension in october 2012. i have ignorantly claimed child benefit for my child for one year but stoppe it on advice from a friend. i have applied for visa extension in july 2012 and its been 5 months and i havenot yet heard back from ukba. could you advice what i can do ? will my extension get affected because of child benefit claim and will this have a bearing on my indefinite leave to remain in the future please help.

Have you returned the money that you claimed as child benefit?
If yes, do you have confirmation from HMRC that it has been paid back?
Did you include this confirmation with your application?

thank you for your reply i will make the payment asap? ifthats done is that it will it men i can get my visa and it wont affect my ilr application in future? plesase reply am quite anxious

Contact HMRC and arrange to return the money wrongfully claimed ... without delay. If your application has not been decided by the time you return the money and receive written confirmation from HMRC of the same, write to UKBA and include the confirmation from HMRC.
