Hello,
I am American and married to a EU member (French). I have an EEA family permit that expires early February. We entered the UK on it in Oct, but needed to come back to France shortly thereafter to sort some things out.
My husband is a GP doctor, and has been job seeking. It looks like no clinics are keen to hire him without him undertaking an induction program that lasts 6 months (due to no UK experience), and requires him to sit exams that are held in March and April (next available date). If he does well (should not be a problem) he will be be placed in a clinic where he will receive supervision for 6 months. He will receive a very small wage for this supervision.
I am also job seeking, and am interviewing with some interesting locum positions this week. If I find a good fit, I would like to accept.
As my family permit will be expiring, I am eager to send out EEA2 so I can have a COA to confirm my working rights. It seems my husbands situation falls somewhere between the EEA2 "jobseeker" category, and that of "unemployed and seeking vocational training." Here is the supporting documents we can provide under either:
1. Jobseeker:
-letter from his French employer stating that my husband voluntarily separated my employment (in order to seek work in the UK), and there was no problems with his performance
- Evidence that he is registered and licensed to practice medicine under the UK overseeing body
-He has not registered with agencies per say, but he may be able to do this online in order to provide support to the application
-Various emails from different people (including a Primary Care Trust) indicating that completion of the induction program is "highly recommended" (but really, it seems mandatory in its application)
2. Unemployed, undergoing vocational training
In addition to above documentation we can provide print-outs about the program, and various emails from recruiters, PCT's and the deanery explaining the program
-He has sent his application for the induction program (so we could provide a copy) but we will not get official acceptance into the program until he sits the exams in April/May. We will, however, receive a letter saying that his application has been "received"
-He needs to undertake independent study for the exams on essentially a full-time basis, so other employment is not an option. (However, he has has the option of returning to France a few days a month to do some medical work so we have a little additional income prior to the start of his clinical training- not sure if this has any relevancy).
-The deanery says that at this time they cannot provide us with a letter other than the receipt of application.
I know there is always the self-sufficiency route, too. We have about 30,000 euros in the bank, not sure if this is adequate. There is also the expense and hassle of CSI that I would prefer to avoid if possible. (As I understand it, CSI is not necessary for jobseekers/ unemployed). Also I have not been able to determine if CSI is for both of us, and how long it would need to extend for.
I am really counting on getting my COA by early Feb, so I want to apply to EEA2 through the strongest possible pathway.
Any advice or suggestion is greatly appreciated.
