Is it ok to set up a second business while on the entrepreneur visa, or invest in other businesses? Or can the visa holder only work for one business?

You can only be employed by the business that relates to the Tier 1. You can own, administrate, and take profits from any other entity.

Are only those tier 1 holders who apply with 200k allowed to own more than one business, or even those who apply with 50k?

There is no limit (ignoring the work of the Competition Commission) on the amount of businesses any individual may own in the UK. Not every business in the UK is owned by a settled resident or someone who has a right to live in the UK. A person in another part of the world can own a business in the UK and not have any immigration rights other than as a visitor.
The point I am making is with regard to Tier 1 (Ent) migrants and employment. Tier 1 (Ent) only permits actual employment in the business that was joined or established - employment is defined as taking a PAYE salary like any other employed person or being self-employed and charging a business for the type of business services your company provides. However, there is nothing to prevent an enterprising person on Tier 1 (Ent) status owning or investing in several other business entities (in the same or entirely different sphere of business to that which he already has) where he may act as a director taking dividends or profits from his business assets. This is not income from employment. If a guy with Tier 1 (Ent) based on a technology enterprise wants to own a cornershop that's perfectly okay.
This applies equally to any person in the UK on any immigration status.

Hi,
Luca's comment is correct. If any one want to comment on some issue please make sure you have got particular info from trusted source. Please don't just leave wake comments or your opinions, as they can mislead visa application errors of other members. Im sorry, but I got to tell this as I suffered.
Regards,
RAM

Thanks. So does that mean that the person can change his role in the original business itself?
