Previous addresses

Post by samira_uk » Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:09 am

Dear All,

I have questions regarding previous address in the last 5 years on Tier 1 G and dependent form.

1-During the last five years I went to my country for about 70 days. During that time, my official address in the UK was as before. Then, should I mention the address in the UK or the address which I stayed in my country? Should all addresses were in the UK? I am more worry about the future ILR application because if I mention the UK address, then two years later I should provide my absences and then they may say why you did not mention that on the form. If I am saying the overseas address they may have problems regarding being outside the UK or broken residence here?

2-I changed my address sometimes and each time I might have to spend for a bit with my friends to find a new place (as I changed the city as well). Obviously I did not report these short stays to the police or banks. Should I mention them on the form? I think it is very common than we are staying with friends for a while.

3-When I first entered the UK, I spent some nights at hotel should I mention it on the form?

1. You can mention your address in the UK during the 70 day visit abroad (for a vacation), if that's what has been your address for correspondence in the UK for that period. (e.g paying council tax, bank statements, NHS correspondence, etc.) However, this would change if you went for employment abroad or if you are required to report to the police. For your ILR, the UKBA has your UK extry and exist records. The question would only arise when in a year you have been away more 180 days in total or in any of the 12 consecutive months period of your Tier 1 G visa. Check this Part 6A - Points-based system
2. This again would depend if at all there is a requirement for you to report to the police, if not then it should not be necessary
3. I think this is understood by UKBA that a person wouldnt have a permanent accomodation the day they arrive in the UK. So you can ignore this bit. However if you perceive you have been living in a hotel long enough , then it is worth mentioning

Thank you for your response. Actually, I went to police for my long holiday and they told me whenever you changed your address you should report us. Therefore, they did not do anything else. My correspondence address was not changed and the absence was not due to employment outside the UK.

For temporary address the same thing applies I guess. As police usually does not register the temporary addresses which you stay for a couple of days. They even usually ask for proof of address (police stations in London always asked me for that) and therefore one does not have any proof for his friend's address. So, I did not report these temporary ones to the police and only reported the one which I supposed to stay for long term. It is like that you are staying in a hotel and I dont know do you have to report it to a police station?

Anyway, I dont know should I write these temporary ones or not. I dont know caseworkers take them serious and I did not find anything in the rules or guidance.

I am thinking of explain the matter in the cover letter.

I am now filling the form (my appointment is for 7th Jan) and in the previous address I dont remember what I replied in my landing card when I came back from my country? The story is that I went abroad for holiday for 70 days and actually moved from previous home and on coming back to UK I moved to a new address.

The problem is that those days I was not sure about the address which I'd stay on arrival and I had three options. On the very day of coming back I chose one and moved there but I did not know what I put on Landing card. Then, do you think it will cause any problem? I think the story is clear as anyone could be in such unknown situation. Is it mandatory that the address in the Landing card are correspondent to the one I am going to declare on the form?

Anyway I am going to write on the cover letter that the address details on the form are approximate. To be honest, I dont know why they are asking about previous address in the last 5 years when I've been here for only 3 years?

Thanks in advance.
