SOC, job title and salary rate, from PSW to Tier 2 General

Post by pucalee » Thu Dec 20, 2012 12:05 am

Hello, I'm currently switching from PSW to Tier 2 General.

My office has applied for a sponsorship licence in mid October which is currently being processed by UKBA (they asked for some additional documents yesterday).

I'm now listing the information / documents needed for my visa application.

What I don't quite understand is the issue with job title and minimum salary rate.

I'm an architect and the salary rate I found here (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... iew=Binary) is as follows:

• Part 1 £17,000 (for a 35 hour week)
• Part 2 £21,000 (for a 35 hour week)
• Part 3 £27,000 (for a 35 hour week)
• New graduate (newly registered) £29,000 (for a 35 hour week)
• Architect with 3-5 years’ experience £34,000 (for a 35 hour week)
• Senior architect £36,000 (for a 35 hour week)

My occupational qualification is not UK standards, and my job title is 'design architect', which doesn't have much to do with titles above. My salary is around 32k for 40 hours/week (28k for 35).

From my understanding my company will have to choose one from the list as my job title when they issue CoS to me. Is it just up to the company who sponsors the migrant worker? Who checks if the company has provided the correct information? Even I'm not sure where my role falls into within this list...

One more question, Is CoS just a number or a form of document printed from SMS?

I think I found answer myself, from another topic.

(Topic: 'Salary Requirements for Tier 2')

I need some help in my SOC code please,

My job title is Embedded Software engineer.

when I had a look on SOC code it comes under Section J 2132 Software professionals and job description for job title Software Engineer (salary- £30100) below,

"With experience of real time or embedded software and
associated hardware this position would be responsible
for the design and programming of related operating
software....."

It has my role embedded software in it.

But I haven't paid that much, so shall I choose the Job title Programmer (salary £26000)under same Code 2132 instead of Software Engineer (salary- £30100) , it matches few of my job description?

What I am worried about is my job title in my company is Embedded Software engineer and exact SOC match is Software Engineer (salary- £30100), but if i choose SOC job title 2132 Programmer will it be a problem?
Your job title does not need to match with their list.

They never ask for your job title in company but they ask closest match from the list.

You can go fo programmer regardless of title in the company.

Even if you don't follow the RIBA professional training plan, on the basis of your present professional level the sponsor has to decide which of the 6 listed levels is equivalent to yours and state that in the CoS.:
http://www.architecture.com/EducationAn ... itect.aspx

The CoS is only an electronic record. You will get its reference No from the sponsor and you have to put it in your grant of leave application.
