Urgent help - Tier2 Extention (went on further enquiry)

Have applied for Tier 2 (intra Company Transfer) work permit extension. Had taken premium appointment at Croydon Home office on 21st November and was expecting to get extension work permit approved on the same day. However the case worker mentioned that the (COS) Certificate of Sponsorship from the employer which is generated online at UK BA site had a different salary from my actual paid salary and need to do further enquiry on this. Salary on both document meet the minimum salary required for extension of the work permit i.e. more than 40K. My passport and documents are still with UK BA.

When I checked with my employer they said that for all COS they provide standard committed salary and the employees generally have actual salary higher than the committed salary and there had been no issues in the past. They also mentioned that UK BA has not contacted them yet for any enquiry. However, my employer has updated the COS with my actual salary.

I want to know how long does the UK BA generally take to close such further enquiry cases? What can I do to speed up the process so that I receive my passport and document back before 11th January 2012.
