Disabled Immigrant - What benefits/restrictions

Post by Brigid from Ireland » Thu Jan 03, 2013 12:55 pm

EU citizen, would like to move to Britain as facilities for people with disabilities are better there.

Has worked in the EU for 10 years, will not qualify for any pension/income as a result of this work.

Can now no longer work, or at best might work part time for two/three years.

Disability becoming increasingly severe, will eventually need home carer, no family members available to help. Will also need income and housing.

What benefits are available in the UK? What must one do to qualify for benefits in the UK? Is there a minimum period for which one must work in order to qualify?
