contract work

Post by ali2013 » Thu Jan 03, 2013 1:17 pm

Hi everyone, currently i am holding post study work and i still have 8 months till it expires. I met few solicitors, some have been telling me that you can register your company and can do contract works. I did my MSc in computer systems and networking and i am ccna certified as well, so basically i am looking forward to IT and Network engineer contract roles. On the other hand some solicitor told me that you being a director of the company you cannot work, if you hire two employees they can provide services. So i wasnt confident enough to make a decision shall i go for enterpreneur or not. Because if i cannot do contract roles then whats the point of investing 50,000.

Can you point me out that whether contract works are allowed or not? and if they are allowed then any link to a valid source will be appreciated?

secondly as i still have 8 months of visa left. What should i plan ahead. register a company or as self employed. actually i dont have much details about it. Thanks

You are limited to working for the entity that you created or joined in order to qualify for your Tier 1 (Ent) leave. However, if that entity will invoice clients for the services you render, that is acceptable. Otherwise, you can't be under the control of a third party.

If you are setting up a network analysis business, yes. That is the company that you are limited to working for. That business can provide network analysis services to other companies (clients) and your time working on that can be invoiced by your company to the client. The client can't employ you directly; you can only work for your own business.

yeh i understand that the second company cannot hire me. Its basically a contract they will sign with my company as to providing them network services. I think instead of mentioning network services i should rather go for IT services, because the will give me more options to work on my buisness area. I can provide hardware, software, troubleshooting, systems administration, network analyses, network deploying, network monitoring, network security.

So i think instead of being more specific as networks, i should mention IT services that will encounter all of these and many more. what do u think?

yes you can

yes you can do contract work.

I have just hired someone with tier 1 ent visa on contract.

What that means, is that my company signs a contract with the job applicants(you) limited company to provide IT consulting services.

Then the person works for us, but we pay his limited company(like any IT contractor), and not him.

So technically that person(Tier 1 ent visa holder) is still working for his own limited company and not us. So he is not our employee but we get his services through his company.
