Tier 1 General (Extension) - Right time to apply

Dear All

I will be kind enough for your advise regarding below.

I got my initial Tier 1 (General) visa on 01/04/2010 for 3 years.

My next extension (for 2 years) is due on 01/04/2013.

At what right time, I should apply for my extension by attending PEO appointment which should not leave any impact of my ILR application in 2015 considering 5 years duration without any time shortfall?

If I attend on 01/03/2013, will my extended visa start from 01/03/2013 or continuing from previous to be start on 01/04/2013? If it's going to start on 01/03/2013, my ILR application in 2015 will be from 01/04/2010 to 01/03/2015 which is one month short for 5 years duration.
