Professional/skilled working visa Urgent help,,

Post by Bluebear » Mon Jan 07, 2013 8:10 pm

Hi,

I was hoping someone could help answer a few questions about my situation. I have been offered a professional job in Edmonton, I am currently residing in the UK. My new employer in Edmonton is providing me with a letter of employment acceptance and a labour market agreement can I take both of these straight to the port of entry? Also my fiancée who I have lived with for over 3 years is joining me so can she also come to the port of entry with me and join on to my visa as an open working visa? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

In addition to the letter of employment and copy of the approved LMO, you will need $150.00 CAN to pay for the work permit at POE, 2 photographs and your police clearance.

In regards to your fiancee, it all depends on whether you are a skilled or semi-skilled worker. Please read more here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre ... q=199&t=17.

If she qualifies, then you will have to fill out form IMM 5409: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/f ... M5409E.pdf

I hope you like winter sports!

Not really. You still need to apply for a work permit and, your fiancee could still apply for an open work permit for being your common law partner.

Make sure your contract provides you with an expense vehicle to move around - here it's a necessity and insurance could be expensive-.

If you are coming to play for FC Edmonton, then mate, Welcome to Alberta!

Visa and stuff at the POI

Post by Bluebear » Thu Jan 10, 2013 3:21 pm

I thought if you had a contract/job offer from a professional club, a professional athlete or coach did not need a work permit and you can sort the visa at your port of entry!? Also your common law partner then can apply at the Port of entry for her open work visa!?

Is this incorrect!?

Appreciate the feedback and information.

Thanks

If you come to play for a foreign-based team or Canadian amateur team, then you can compete without a work permit. As for your fiancee, she still needs to fill out form IMM 5409.

It so happens that today I have to go to a CIC office, (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) and I will definitely inquire further about your particular case.

Surprises me that a professional team is not offering legal support to their players.
