4EUFAM Application - Current visa to run out.

Post by Donh » Tue Jan 08, 2013 10:52 pm

Hi guys

I have been reading up on the blog just about the whole day about the 4EUFAM applications..

But I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on my case.

Myself and my wife just got married in December in Poland. We have both been living in Ireland for a long time.. (Me - almost 5 years)

I have been on a stamp 1 work permit for over 4 years, but because of redundancy I was given 6 months to get a new job. That 6 months is about to run out on February 02.

We are returning to Ireland in a couple days and we plan to apply for the 4EUFAM stamp. From what I understand is that they require you to submit your passport along with the rest of the documents.

My question is. What do I do about my current GNIB card that is about to expire?

Do I just ask for my temporary 4EUFAM stamp? (For this I would require my passport :-( )

Or

Do I ask to extend my GNIB card based on my application?

I would appreciate a bit of advice on the subject. Thanks

When you make the application you will have to send them your passport. They will keep it for 3-4 weeks and then return it back to you with an acknowledgement letter which lets you go to the immigration office and get a temporary Stamp 4 for 6 months.

I suspect extending your current GNIB card based on the application might be difficult (instead you will need to get a new one with the EU Treaty Right acknowledgement letter), but I could be wrong.

So the option I see is to submit the application asap and wait for them to send you back the passport and letter. The slight risk is that if they don't send it back before the expiry of your GNIB card you will be without GNIB card and without passport for a while. And if for some reason they don't send you the letter and instead require further details (in case you forgot supporting documents for exemple) you might end up in a tricky situation.

If you think the timing will be too short based on the expiry date of your current GNIB card, I suggest emailing them to ask what to do: eutreatyrights@justice.ie
