Lost my passport - Do I need a new BRP?

Help!

I have lost my American passport but still have my BRP safe. I am on a tier 2 work visa. I am in the process of applying for a new passport, but I want to know whether I also need a new BRP or whether they can just transfer my new passport details to my existing BRP?

If I do need a new BRP do I have to go through all the bother of having my biometrics enrolled again, etc?
