advise please on visa for ireland and uk

Hi all need a little bit of advice my husband a non eu passport holder and me a british citizen my husband has a entry visa to ireland to accompany me there to live my question is he needs a connecting flight from london to dublin does he need a visa to enter the uk to get his connecting flight i will be traveling with him at this time iv'e looked at the ukba website and it says he needs a visitor visa but then it also says not required for traveling in the common travel area so i'm a little confused whether he needs a visa or not he has a visa under eu directive 2004 to travel with me to dublin is having this visa enough to get his connecting flight to dublin i will be with him we have our marriage certificate and one way tickets to dublin any advice on this is much appreciated thanks :D

By the sound of things, he may not require a visa.
