Post by razraz » Mon Jan 21, 2013 7:04 pm

Hi I'm a tier 4 student in the uk. My wife is in my dependant visa ie tier 4 dependant. Can she switch her status to tier 4 student. If yes can she apply from within the uk or does she need to go back to her country of origin. Plz let me know if anyone knows about this.I have the visa until october this year.Thx

'switching' refers to in country applications where the applicant is in the UK under one category and wishes to make an in country application to switch to another category.

It is not possible to 'switch' from tier 4 dependent to tier 4 or vice versa. Your wife would have to apply from her home country. Likewise if you wish to apply as her dependent you would need to do so from outside the UK and this would only be possible if she is studying at post graduate course of at least 12 months duration (or if she is government sponsored a course of at least 6 months duration)

Confused. We live in the UK. Husband and wife. And can she not switch to student from inside the uk??

I don't see any reply in this thread that states she can apply from within the UK.
