NI Contribution in Tier 1 General

Post by tier1_journey » Sun Jan 27, 2013 3:28 pm

Hi guys,

I'm currently on Tier 1 General visa in 4th year. However i'm working outside UK for my UK company. I do get paid in the UK (i.e. on UK payroll). I will be coming to the UK to extend my visa later this year (showing my UK payslips and bank statements as proof) since I wont be able to get ILR due to my absences.

I have been out of UK for more than a year now. My question is do I have to continue to pay NI contribution while I'm outside UK by visa requirements? If I stop paying NI contribution now, will it affect my visa renewal? Currently I pay both UK tax and NI contribution.

I not planning to settle in the UK nor get an ILR (as such i wont), i just want to continue to extend my Tier 1 visa as much as possible in the future to help me to visit my UK employer whenever required.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You might find the lack of response to your query is due to the fact that this is more of a UK tax query, rather than an immigration query. There is no requirement for anyone to have paid NI when extending a Tier 1 visa - but you still have to stick to the law. As long as not paying NI is legal in your set up, then I can't see it having any effect on your extension.
Do not send me PM's with specific questions - post question in the open forum so others can also benefit from the answers.
