MN1: delivery of certificate at a friend’s place

Post by sahoom » Mon Jan 28, 2013 9:12 pm

Hi all,

I have an urgent question. Please help.

I have an appointment with a NCS in 3 days time for my kid’s registration thorough section 1(3), child born in UK before a parent obtained ILR / Citizenship (currently I am a naturalized citizen). We are leaving the country for 6/7 months. We are moving out from the current rental accommodation shortly and will find an apartment once we are back. I was thinking of giving a friend’s address to receive the registration certificate. Is it possible / legal? The postman might ask for an id before it delivers the certificate. What do I do? Kindly let me know.

Many thanks.

To add to my previous question, does the certificate come in the parent's name or the kid's name? In other words, will the postman want to see an id for the kid or the parent? Is it possible to give authorization to my friend to receive it on my behalf? If yes, how can I do that? Kindly respond. Thank you.

You can use a different address than our residence one. The certificate comes by regular 1st/2nd class post. There is no need for ID. It will be under the child name.

Thanks a lot, Jambo. That is a great relief. Just one question: Shall we mention our current address (we will move out in 4 days time) as present address in the application and change the address to our friend’s address right after submitting the application at the NCS (I think we can change the address online at the UKBA website) or give our friend’s address as present address in the application. I am asking this question because, technically our friend’s address in not our current address and there is nothing called address for communication in the form (where we could have mentioned our friend’s address).

Kindly let me know.

I would incline to use your friends address as the current address. The HO are not very good in updating their records....

Thank you. It makes sense. I will do that.
