passport application from overseas

I was surprised to not find an answer to this after searching the forums

Once i have my UK bc , i might be required to travel to Australia immediately for work purposes for an extended period. Would it be very difficult to apply for a British passport there in Australia? I would rather do it Asap, in Australia, than wait to come back to UK and then apply.

thanks - I searched for something like overseas passport application and got all sort of other results
