Family Visitor to UK who has an ECR stamp

Post by raokartik » Thu Feb 07, 2013 12:56 pm

Hi There,

We are planning to call my mother-in-law to visit us in UK. Her passport ws issued in 2006 and it seems to have a ECR stamp.

I read somewhere that this means we have to get Emigration clearence from the Passport office. Is this right ? Does she have to do that even if she is just visit us and not planning to work.

I read somewhere that the ECR stamping has no meaning post 2007?

Any help is much appeciated.

Cheers,
Kartik

Is this an Indian passport you are talking about? If so, the ECR has some exemptions listed - if memory serves me right it's not required for travel to North America, Europe and some other countries. Do check on the passport.
