citizenship query

Post by deebs » Sat Feb 09, 2013 7:19 pm

I am on a T1 general visa and it expires in June 2013. I have to wait until June 2015 for ILR application.

My wife is currently on ILR since july 2012

We have been married since 2008 and can provide council tax bills to show we have lived together. My sons UK birth certificate also shows both our names as father and mother.

What is the quickest route for me to become a British citizen? Do I have to 1) get my ILR in 2015 and wait a year before I can apply for citizenship 2) get my ILR in 2015 and apply for citizenship as spouse of a UK citizen 3) become a dependent of my wife before my T1 expires in June 2013 4) become a dependent of my wife after she becomes a British citizen (this will mean I have to extend my T1 visa in June 2013)

Not sure how many years I will have to wait before I can apply to become a British citizen in scenarios 3 and 4 above.

Please help

Assuming you will qualify for ilr as a tier 1 general migrant, the quickest route to ilr is to remain in that category and apply for for ilr in 2015. If your wife is British by then you won't need to wait a further year for citizenship.
