Delay Entering UK after Entry Clearance issued

Post by i2day » Mon Feb 11, 2013 12:31 pm

Hi Guys,

I was granted a 2 years + 1 month Tier 2 visa commencing from today. My contract is going to start from next month.
But I need more time to wrap up my stuff in Dubai and leave for UK. (say 3 months) Would this be an issue?
Do I have to be present at UK at time of start of my contract even if my employer and I have no issue and I can work for them remotely ?
- Is there a deadline for first landing in UK ?

Many thanks

I don't think there is a limit. There's a 3-month limit on the CoS being activated but if you already have your entry visa your CoS has been activated already. Maybe check the Tier 2 policy guidance at UKBA website.

Did you request a later effective date?

Thanks for your reply guys. When I applied for visa, I stated 5/03/2013 as expected date of travel which is the same as our starting date of contract. But UK embassy has given the visa starting from the date of issue. So the visa validity is 2 years (contract period + almost 1 month before starting date)

If you enter the UK within 3 months, then you should be okay.

Or ask them to amend the dates as originally requested, in line with their instructions, subject to
ECB9.5 What if applicant is not intending to travel straight away to the UK wrote:You may need to ensure that applicants applying under the various employment categories (and importantly under PBS Tier 2 and Tier 5) or as students under PBS Tier 4 would be acceptable to their UK sponsor, should entry be deferred by 3 months.

Thanks for your complete answer. It gave me some peace of mind. I'll leave for UK in about two months...
