Provisional Driving licence

I have 6 points on my provisional licence. Could some one Please advice me on how long points will stay on my licence and will there be any problem if I apply for my tier1 visa extension?

I got points because i was not displaying L plates on my vehicle and my insurance was not valid too.

depending on why you had points for will last a min of 4 years
