As regards :-
Date of expiry of current leave: ………………… Dec 2012
-: it is important that you appreciate that your old visa did not expire in December 2012. That is, because you applied for your new visa before the stated expiry date of the old one, Section 3C applies, and the old visa is "treated as continuing" while they dealt with the application.

So at no stage were you an overstayer in the UK.
