Croatian work restriction in Ireland

Post by gopem » Sat Feb 16, 2013 9:59 am

I was wondering if it was already known whether Ireland will impose work restrictions on Croatians, when Croatia enters the EU on July the 1st 2013?

UK, France, Germany have done so....

I have not found any definitive information for you. You can ask INIS directly yourself. Once you establish what will happen, it would be great if you posted back.

Not sure, but there is 5 years probation period for new EU joiners, so likely it will be yes.

But again, this is Ireland and you probably wont know until it happened.

I have emailed the employment permits section DJEI, three times now asking this questions but they have not got back to me.

Does anyone know if a decision has been made or when this might be made?

The INIS website only states requirements for non-EEA nationals, which means all EEA nationals are free to work. There was a period of time where there was an additional section on Bulgaria and Romania, who were EEA, but had restrictions. That section is now gone, after restrictions were lifted last summer. So I guess will have to wait till July to see on the INIS website if there will be an additional section about Croatia or not. If there isn't it might mean there wont be any restrictions?

"Government has decided not to exercise an option under the Treaty to restrict access to Ireland’s labour market for nationals of Croatia."
