Will child benefit affect ILR application?

hi,

I am going to apply for ilr very soon. I had claimed child benefit and child tax credit few years back and stopped after aabout a year realising it is public fund.

Can some please suggest what I should do before application,

Whether returning benefit will help me?

Howlong hmrc take to accept refunds?

If I return, Should I attach cover letter with ILR application explaing claim and refunds to hmrc or just keep quite (as ILR appliation ask if benefit is being claimed, it doesn't ask about past claim.)

What visa are you on? Mostly all visa comes with a condition that you shouldn't access any public funds.
